What Do You Do When Success Isn't Enough? Christian Counseling in Houston That Addresses What's Still Missing.

Integrated care for mind, body, and soul — helping you move from surviving to genuinely thriving.

Shade Tree Counseling is a Christian counseling practice in Houston, Texas. We are committed to a biblical worldview, traditional family values, and the belief that people are made of mind, body, and soul — and that all three must be addressed for real healing to happen.

Most counseling gets you to okay. We're after something better than okay. The goal isn't symptom management, it's genuine flourishing. Purpose. Maturity. A life worth living. That's not marketing. That's the mission.

What Is Shade Tree Counseling?

Shade Tree Counseling Center is a private-pay Christian counseling practice located at 10200 Richmond Ave, Houston, Texas. We serve adult men, adult women, and teenagers seeking counseling that integrates psychological skill-building, physical health, and biblical faith into one coherent approach to healing and growth.

You don't have to choose between your faith and effective care. Our primary approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, one of the most evidence-based modalities available, and one whose core principles find deep roots in Scripture. Romans 12:2 described the renewing of the mind long before psychology had a name for it. We combine the best of psychology, medicine when appropriate, and spiritual care, alongside the physiological foundations of sleep, nutrition, and movement.

We do not take insurance. We are a cash-pay practice because we believe your care should remain private, confidential, and free from the limitations and diagnostic labeling that insurance-based care requires.

From Symptom Management to a Life of Thriving

"Most counseling moves people from negative ten to zero. We want to take you all the way to positive ten."

The standard mental health model is built around diagnosis and symptom reduction. You come in struggling, and the goal is to get you back to baseline — to functioning, to coping, to not drowning. That's not a small thing. But you were made for more! At Shade Tree, we believe that is only the beginning

We believe you were made to thrive — to live with purpose, to grow in maturity, to engage meaningfully with your family, your community, and your God. We want to help you get there. That means we don't stop when the crisis is over. We walk with you into what comes next.

Every journey starts somewhere. Ours typically begins with a few months of consistent work, working through what's most pressing in your life right now. After that, many clients move into a maintenance or growth phase — bi monthly or monthly sessions, accountability, life skills, and the deeper work of becoming who you were made to be.

What Makes Shade Tree Different

We treat the whole person

Mind, body, and soul — not just what hurts, but why it hurts. We talk about your thinking, your physical health, your faith, your community, and your purpose. All of it matters.

We hold a biblical worldview

We believe God's design for human life is good, and that real thriving happens when we align our lives with that design. Our counselors hold a historic and traditional Christian worldview when it comes to family, relationships, and the way we live our lives.

We are not just symptom reducers

We want you to move beyond symptom relief into purpose, meaningful relationships, and a life well-lived. Symptom reduction is a milestone, not the destination.

We use CBT because it is proven science that aligns with biblical wisdom

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is built around changing how you think — which is precisely what Romans 12:2 describes. We chose CBT because we see it as a scientific and biblical framework for renewing the mind.

Movement therapy is part of our model

We offer outdoor sessions — walking, golf, and other active formats — because we believe sunlight, movement, and being outside are part of physical and mental health, not a novelty.

We are cash-pay and completely private

No insurance claims. You won't be reduced to a checklist here. No limitations on what we can address. Your care stays between you and your counselor.
